Travancore Rural Development Producer Company Ltd. (Travanco), headquartered in Adoor, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, is a pioneering Farmer Producer Company (FPC) established in 2004.
As one of India’s first producer companies under the Companies Act of 1956, Travanco is committed to transforming marginal farmers into successful agripreneurs through comprehensive support, technological innovation, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Travanco’s inception traces back to the liberalization policies of the 1990s, designed to revitalize India’s socio-economic growth. Recognizing the critical role of cooperative societies in alleviating poverty and promoting rural prosperity, the Indian government introduced amendments under Part IX A of the Companies Act in 2002, paving the way for producer companies. Officially notified in 2003, these “New Age Cooperatives” provided a structured and professional framework tailored specifically to agricultural development and farmer empowerment. Travanco proudly stands as one of Kerala’s earliest registered producer companies, uniquely positioned to support and uplift rural agricultural communities.
Travanco focuses extensively on marginal and smallholder farmers, providing holistic support to increase agricultural productivity and farmers’ income. Our core initiatives include:
Training farmers in advanced agricultural techniques and providing hands-on education on modern equipment usage.
Offering structured micro-credit loans and facilitating direct market access to enhance profitability and sustainability.
Promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices that safeguard resources and enhance farmer resilience against climate risks.
Over the past two decades, Travanco has significantly impacted the agricultural landscape of Kerala
In response to the devastating impacts of the Kerala floods and COVID-19 pandemic, Travanco conducted an extensive survey across seven districts, covering approximately 40,000 marginal farmers. This study highlighted alarming levels of poverty and unsustainable agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers. Addressing these critical findings, Travanco launched a comprehensive initiative in April 2022 aimed at increasing farmers’ incomes by 3 to 4 times. This ambitious project involves multiple agricultural interventions in the areas of:
Travanco’s micro-credit pilot project, initiated under the Joint Liability Group (JLG) model, provided critical financial support, significantly helping farmers to improve their incomes from the above projects.
